The 2017 Westville Outdoor Christmas Lighting Contest

“The 2017 Westville Outdoor Christmas Lighting Contest”.

Dear Families and Friends,

An old tradition in our village is being brought back to life for a good cause.  A few weeks ago, a young lady named Aubrie Jenkins (the granddaughter of village councilwoman Dena Jenkins) came to a village board meeting with an idea on how to raise funds for the park bathroom renovations.  We were all very impressed that she thought of this idea and we are going to make it official today. “The 2017 Westville Outdoor Christmas Lighting Contest”.

Starting today through December 22, any homeowners in the Westville School District who have taken the time to decorate their homes with outdoor Christmas lighting can enter the contest.  This is also a great way for neighbors to nominate one another to show their appreciation for the beautiful decorations in their neighborhood.  Someone could be entered and not even be aware they have been registered for the contest.  Just fill out the attached form and mail or drop off the entry at the village clerks office.  Forms will also be available at City Hall.  There will be a $20 entry fee to enter this contest and all proceeds will go directly to the park bathroom renovations.

The judging will take place on Saturday, December 23rd from 6pm-9pm.  There will be 3 placements awarded for the contest; 1st place $100.00, 2nd Place $75.00 and 3rd Place $50.00.  The winners will be announced on the village Facebook page on December 26th.  In addition, a commemorative plaque will be presented at the board meeting in January where we will also take pictures.  The winners will also have their photo in the newspaper which will also appear on the village website and Facebook page.  Note that all cash awards and plaques are being donated so all funds from the entry fees will go directly towards the renovation of our bathrooms in the park.

We would like to thank everyone in advance for taking part in the 2017 Westville Outdoor Christmas Lighting Contest.  We are so excited to bring this tradition back and we thank Aubrie for taking the time to remind us of something old now becoming something new for our town.  We will look forward to announcing the winners very soon.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas,

Darin Troglia

Elder Fraud

Fraud victims over 50 account for over 57% of all fraud and many members of your community are likely to have been or will be affected by elder fraud. We welcome the news that President Trump has signed into law the Elder Abuse Prevention and Prosecution Act and given the heightened interest in this subject.

With this in mind we have a free, clear guide to help people avoid and detect elder fraud - please go to our Village of Westville Facebook Page for a quick, easy link to that guide.
